UK Remote Gaming Operators Face Margin Squeeze as 40% Tax Rate Bites

Following the implementation of the new 40% Remote Gaming Duty earlier this April, major UK-listed operators are reporting a significant impact on their Q2 2026 financial outlooks. Industry giants such as Betsson and Evoke have already begun adjusting their strategies, with many reducing player bonuses and tightening marketing spend to offset the near-doubling of the tax rate from the previous 21%. Analysts warn that this aggressive fiscal policy may lead to market consolidation as smaller firms struggle to maintain profitability under the new HMRC guidelines.
