Maltese Ambassador to Italy Endorses SiGMA: “A National Success Linking Innovation, Economy, and Diplomacy”

“Malta and Italy share more than just a maritime border,” said Azzopardi. “We’re connected through centuries of history, culture, and language. Today, those ties are finding new expression through technology and collaboration.” Within this context, SiGMA acts as a bridge—an international platform using innovation as a tool for economic diplomacy.

From Malta to Rome: Taking a National Brand Global

The next SiGMA World summit is scheduled for November 3–6, 2025, in Rome, marking a key step in the brand’s European growth. The event will cover not only iGaming, but also AI, blockchain, emerging tech, and education, creating a multidimensional innovation hub.

For Ambassador Azzopardi, SiGMA’s success is a point of national pride: “Few Maltese brands have reached such global recognition. Its presence in Italy reflects Malta’s growing role as a Mediterranean innovation hub.”

He added that the government’s support goes beyond symbolic endorsement. “SiGMA is an economic pillar and a connector of strategic sectors. Its expansion aligns with Malta’s vision for tech-driven development.”

Shared Values, Shared Future

Azzopardi described the Malta-Italy connection as deep and organic. “We’re like cousins—culturally and historically. Our surnames, cuisine, and art overlap in meaningful ways.”

Events like SiGMA, he said, have the power to blur borders and strengthen cultural diplomacy. “Malta is an island, yes. But through partnerships like this, boundaries become porous and opportunities multiply.”

The Rome edition of SiGMA embodies this spirit, aiming to tighten links between technology, institutions, and enterprise—a blueprint for a more integrated and resilient Euro-Mediterranean economy.

September 17: Diplomacy Meets Celebration

To commemorate this collaboration, the Maltese Embassy in Rome will host an early celebration of Malta’s Independence Day on September 17, ahead of the official date. The event will be supported by SiGMA as lead sponsor.

Highlights include a concert by world-renowned Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja at the Pantheon, one of Rome’s most iconic landmarks. “The Pantheon inspired the design of Malta’s Mosta Dome,” noted Azzopardi. “This link between architecture and identity captures the event’s essence.”

A diplomatic reception will follow at the Chiostro del Bramante, welcoming institutional leaders, diplomats, and top executives. That evening, SiGMA will officially announce its Rome expo, cementing its collaboration with Malta’s state institutions.

Rome as an Innovation Gateway

As SiGMA World lands in Rome, it becomes more than an event—it becomes a platform for strategic cooperation across Malta, Italy, and Europe. It will foster dialogue between public and private sectors, focused on building a future grounded in responsible innovation.

Ambassador Azzopardi concluded, “SiGMA is not just a driver of the Maltese economy—it’s becoming a trusted global brand. We want it to keep evolving, creating lasting partnerships and new opportunities.”

Rome will be more than a location. It will be a symbol of Malta’s forward-looking diplomacy—assertive, innovative, and globally engaged.
