According to a report from GGRAsia, Kangwon Land is preparing to open its second casino property tailored for South Korean nationals, with the launch now projected for early 2028. While the original target was late 2027, the company has confirmed a slight schedule adjustment.

Sleek Architecture, Enhanced Entertainment
The new facility features a striking architectural concept, with sloped “prow-style” roofing and sharp angles creating a modern, fluid silhouette. The building is surrounded by tranquil water features and fountains, adding a serene counterbalance to the bold geometry.
Spanning five floors—including two below ground and three above—the structure incorporates a high, vaulted ceiling above the gaming area, designed to enhance spatial openness and create a premium guest experience.
This second property will include both gaming and non-gaming zones. The latter will house restaurants, leisure spaces, and additional entertainment options.
Boosting Gaming Capacity
The expansion is set to add 50 gaming tables and 250 electronic machines, bringing the resort’s total capacity to 250 tables and 1,610 gaming machines once the new casino opens. The new venue will cover 18,430 square meters (approximately 198,000 square feet), serving as a key addition to the current resort complex.
Government-Backed and Strategically Funded
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism granted preliminary approval for the expansion in September 2024, following internal assessments and growing external demand for upgraded resort infrastructure.
By December 2024, Kangwon Land’s board had greenlit an investment of KRW 179.6 billion (about €130 million at the time) to fund the construction. Plans outlined an operational space of 5,748 square meters, including extended gaming floors, retail zones, a theater, and additional dining venues.
A Unique Market Position
Kangwon Land remains South Korea’s only casino legally accessible to Korean nationals, a status that has helped it maintain its position as the country’s top-grossing gaming venue. The launch of a second casino is expected to drive significant increases in both domestic and international tourism.
The development is part of Kangwon Land’s broader vision to evolve into a high-end integrated resort, blending luxury, gaming, dining, and entertainment into one cohesive destination.
Construction is currently underway, with a targeted opening date in early 2028. The project reflects the company’s commitment to combining modern aesthetics with a full-scale hospitality experience.
