Australia’s “Whistle-to-Whistle” Gambling Ad Ban Officially Takes Effect

Starting today, April 13, 2026, the Australian federal government has enforced its strictest gambling regulation to date: a total “whistle-to-whistle” ban on all betting advertisements during live sports broadcasts. This new law prohibits any gambling-related logos, commercials, or mentions from five minutes before the match starts until five minutes after it ends. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) stated this is a critical step in reducing gambling harm among minors, while major sporting leagues are bracing for a projected 15% drop in broadcasting rights revenue.
