UK Operators Brace for April Tax Hike as RGD Jumps to 40%

The UK online gambling sector is preparing for a major financial hit as the Remote Gaming Duty (RGD) is set to increase from 21% to 40% starting April 1, 2026. The hike, announced in the 2025 budget, is part of a government strategy to curb intensive online casino-style play. Major operator Entain has already warned of potential market contraction and a shift to unlicensed sites, reporting a significant statutory loss linked to the impending tax change.
