Jessie Busuttil on SiGMA Foundation’s Expanding Global Impact

Giving Back on a Global Scale

The SiGMA Foundation, the charitable arm of the SiGMA Group, is steadily broadening its global reach with projects spanning South America, Asia, and Africa. Speaking during SiGMA Asia in June, Foundation Operations Manager Jessie Busuttil shared the organization’s mission — to give back to the very communities where SiGMA is most active.

Reflecting on the foundation’s ethos, Busuttil explained:
“The Foundation has been running for six years now, and at its core, it’s all about giving back to communities. As SiGMA expands worldwide, we are increasingly focused on giving back to the communities where our summits take place.”

Expansion and Impact

According to Busuttil, 2025 has been one of the Foundation’s busiest years yet, with “back-to-back events and expeditions.” The team has been active in South America and Asia, with plans to launch projects in Africa before the year ends.

“Just this April, we spent over a month in South America. Of course, we’ve also been busy in Asia, including projects in the Philippines. Later this year, we’ll expand into Africa as well. We’re constantly opening new doors,” she said.

These initiatives cover a wide range of community needs: from medical support in South America (such as hospital expansions in Peru), to clean water and eco-stove programs in Guatemala, and the development of community centers for indigenous groups in the Philippines. Each project reflects a holistic and sustainable approach to development.

A Mission Rooted in Sustainability

When asked how the Foundation selects communities to support, Busuttil emphasized the importance of trusted local partners:

“We rely on people we trust — local contacts who can implement and deliver projects. As long as they share our belief in the mission, we’re confident leaving the projects in their hands. Everything we do must always align with our core purpose.”

That mission goes beyond simply delivering aid. Busuttil stressed:
“Our goal is to provide sustainability — not just to give communities what they need in the moment, but also the tools to support themselves in the future.”

Fundraising with Purpose

The Foundation’s work is powered by creative fundraising efforts that extend beyond traditional channels. In its early years, it operated largely independently of SiGMA events, raising funds through adventure challenges such as mountain treks, where participants collectively contributed to a chosen project.

Today, thanks to SiGMA’s global footprint, the Foundation has access to a much larger network of donors and industry partners.

“We’re very fortunate to receive growing support from industry stakeholders, and that has become a huge driving force for us,” Busuttil explained.

The Foundation also benefits from the visibility of SiGMA events. Brands that support the Foundation not only contribute to meaningful causes but also gain greater exposure through SiGMA’s influential platform.

“It’s really a win-win — being part of the SiGMA Group gives the Foundation the visibility it needs, while our partners benefit from the exposure too,” she added.

Looking Ahead

The SiGMA Foundation’s work embodies values of sustainability, empowerment, and global responsibility. By embedding projects directly within communities and working alongside reliable partners, the Foundation ensures its contributions deliver lasting impact, not just short-term relief.

As Busuttil highlighted, the ultimate goal is not simply to provide aid, but to empower communities to achieve independence. With its expanding global presence, the Foundation is poised to continue playing a pivotal role in transforming lives across continents.
